You aren't supposed to, though. Something about forgetting to put them back in later and then dying when the house burns down and you had no warning.

Or alternatively, the beeping could drive you mad until you stove your own head in. It's a lose-lose situation, really.

And if it keeps going off for no reason, then how will you know if there's a real fire or not?
