We're going to Germany this winter instead of doing anything for Christmas—we're traveling Christmas day, even—and we're not doing anything really spectacular but we're going to see Charlotte and Tinos and Nick and his family and it's Germany again and man fjdklfjkldsfdsfds I am so excited.

Edit: Lurking at a hate meme has turned a fandom I was previously vaguely interested in into something I don't think I'd touch with rubber gloves on. Holy wow.

Ah, I see. Well, just because the fandom blows doesn't mean you shouldn't like, watch it. I mean, I watch it, I enjoy it, I just stay seriously clear of the fandom.

It might be too late. The misogyny and character bashing and petty fighting between grown adults just makes whatever sparked it seem very unappealing by association.

Also, I can't tell by the wank if the show actually has all the SOANDSO IS IN LOVE WITH SOANDSO/SOANDSO IS SLEEPING WITH SOANDSO drama that the fans there are bitching about...

In theory, yes! The tickets aren't actually purchased until a couple of days, and then apparently my parents are going to start cutting stuff out to make sure we can afford them.

Perhaps it's like SPN! Except worse, I suspect. And I really doubt I ever would've watched SPN if I'd seen the fandom first...

THEORETICAL finalization is still pretty good.

I know it doesn't have the kind of character dynamics or camp humor that made SPN so great. But the characters and plot are apparently pretty cool? NOT SURE.

We just have to clear the dates with everyone, I'm pretty sure.

SPN does have a rather startling lack of shipping wars going for it, too. Which is what most of that Dr. Who wank was about.

I'm sure the show itself is entertaining. I'm kind of allergic to fandom these days anyway; I've been thinking about maybe watching a little when I have access to the Rutgers network again. If I really like it I will attempt to make you watch it in any case!

If you like it odds are very good I will, too. And if you actually get me into it, I can be all DAMNIT, YOUR FAULT, WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY.

And yeah, fandom's a little... like fandom. I've never actually been super involved in fandom anyway, I just read and sometimes write fic, so I guess my interest is the same it's ever been. Kind of low.

We shall see!

I was into the long discussion things and spec threads when I first got in, and I still love those, but it's so much harder to find that than the kawaii desu stuff that I mostly just talk at people I already know now. Which is sad in a way! But oh well.

RPing at DDD was like, the most fandom involved I've ever been. Now I'm back to where I was before. Except with even less fic, now that I think about it...

Discussions are fun! In places where STUPID LUNATICS cannot appear.

Speaking of which, any progress on that intriguing Speed Racer thing you mentioned?

They were, especially in Kingdom Hearts, when filling all the plotholes was a full-time occupation for at least forty extremely literate fans during the peak of activity. I haven't really bothered looking for those sorts of people since then. Maybe I should.

I don't see how it was intriguing, since all I mentioned was its existence--but yeah, one thousand words and the last three hours of my life, as a matter of fact. I hate it.

Communities tend to have those people, but since they're a minority you have to dig through a whole lot of annoying stuff to get to them. I think I had the Transformers movie community on my flist for like two days before I was going shut up, shut up, SHUT UP and took it off...

I really HAVE to go to Europe and Asia sometime in the future. If I go career NAVY that might be a possibility, maybe even living there for awhile^^
