(no subject)

It seems like I missed all the abortion drama—the LJ stuff, I mean, I've been following the George Tiller stuff. Which is probably a good thing, I think everyone's said everything I would've, and I don't need to get more angry about stuff. Unfortunately, I haven't missed all the AM radio coverage of the abortion debate, which means I've been listening to a lot of men shouting at each other about the subject, and I have come to a conclusion! (Also I was thinking about this because of the post [livejournal.com profile] heytherenatalie made a few days ago.)

It'd be psycho of me to be all, "Men can't have an opinion about the subject!" Really psycho. But seriously? If you're a dude, you're totally oblivious to your male privilege and you refuse to acknowledge the fact that you will never be pregnant might be influencing you, here, and you insist on sharing your opinion anyway? Shut the fuck up. SHUT THE FUCK UP. Women don't need you to tell us what to do, and that's exactly what you're trying to do anyway, you fucking condescending assholes.

Like I said, I've been listening to a lot of talk radio, so this is directed at all of those wignuts. All the dudes on my flist except [livejournal.com profile] pretzelcoatl are awesome, obviously.

L-lol Alex Jones.

But in all seriousness, I hope people from both sides can come together and say that's horrible. Well, at least I'm pretty sure they are. Everyone's entitled to their feelings on the matter, regardless, BUT violence and mutilated fetuses posters aren't helping. This also gives me a headache, because I am honestly SPLIT on abortion.

I'm a little conflicted, too. I think most people are, if they're honest about it. But to me the legal side of things is pretty clear cut—if you, say, desperately need my left kidney to live, nothing else will save you, the law still cannot compel me to give it to you. Even to save your life! So the thought of legally compelling a woman to remain pregnant against her will is sort of disgusting to me, and so where I fall on the issue is therefore pretty obvious. THUS I AM VEHEMENTLY PRO-CHOICE, even if I'm not entirely sure what I'd do, myself.

I'm open to debate about it! But I'm quickly leaning towards NO MEN NEED BOTHER THEMSELVES TALKING TO ME ABOUT THE SUBJECT >/ which is a shame, really, there's no reason why they shouldn't chime in—except for the fact that the majority of them make fucking asses out of themselves.
