(no subject)

It seems like I missed all the abortion drama—the LJ stuff, I mean, I've been following the George Tiller stuff. Which is probably a good thing, I think everyone's said everything I would've, and I don't need to get more angry about stuff. Unfortunately, I haven't missed all the AM radio coverage of the abortion debate, which means I've been listening to a lot of men shouting at each other about the subject, and I have come to a conclusion! (Also I was thinking about this because of the post [livejournal.com profile] heytherenatalie made a few days ago.)

It'd be psycho of me to be all, "Men can't have an opinion about the subject!" Really psycho. But seriously? If you're a dude, you're totally oblivious to your male privilege and you refuse to acknowledge the fact that you will never be pregnant might be influencing you, here, and you insist on sharing your opinion anyway? Shut the fuck up. SHUT THE FUCK UP. Women don't need you to tell us what to do, and that's exactly what you're trying to do anyway, you fucking condescending assholes.

Like I said, I've been listening to a lot of talk radio, so this is directed at all of those wignuts. All the dudes on my flist except [livejournal.com profile] pretzelcoatl are awesome, obviously.

I despise talk radio so much, at this point.

Yeah. Even the people who aren't total assholes invite total assholes to talk to them. Unfortunately, it's really hard to fall asleep at two in the morning when you're listening to Bill O'Reily being very loudly righteously indignant, so that's what we do.

I heard Rush Limbaugh say "Obama is leading the country into socialism and facism!" the other day. Really, Rush? Really?

Obama's doing apparently practically everything wrong, he's talented at sucking so much! And none of them are even acknowledging the stuff Obama is actually sucking at—like how he might be helping to cover up the torture our military did and how he might not be closing Guantanamo. You'd think that'd make the talk radio lunatics happy! I mean, they could be happy he's failing or happy because that's in line with with their politics, but EITHER WAY, WHERE IS THEIR HAPPINESS?

THERE ARE VALID CRITICISMS TO BE MADE but honestly, I can't take anyone who throws around socialism and facism in the same sentence seriously. And I think that him being vaguely apologetic about the Guantanamo thing makes it not count?

The apologetic thing makes me angry. I mean, I know he's a politician but he really seems to ACTUALLY BELIEVE that closing the place down is the RIGHT THING TO DO, and he's not going to do it? Fuck that. And the American public is overwhelmingly in favor of leaving it open, too, which makes me so goddamn angry.

THERE ARE PLENTY OF VALID CRITICISMS but those people are either idiots themselves, or they're even worse—they're manipulative assholes who are taking advantage of the idiots in their audience and going B. HUSSEIN OBAMA IS A MUSLIM FROM KENYA BE AFRAID OF HIM FREAK THE FUCK OUT ON MY SIGNAL. And some of them must be doing that. Which is terrifying, I think the whole Dr. Tiller thing sort of illustrates that. A guy on Alan Colmes' show was explaining how he's been praying for God to strike Obama down, now that God had already taken out Tiller.

I'd rather see someone do what they actually think it's right whether people agree with them or not, though considering a few past presidencies, maybe that isn't a wise policy.

Yeah, just -- I'm pretty sure most of them are smarter than they sound to us, they're just trying to be deliberately inflammatory. Which is horrible, what the hell!
