rocknload: (♫ someone stop me ♫)

it's been a long time, and i don't think i like the road no more;

Only a pansy would say, sign up for lessons or maybe bring someone along who knew how to snowboard. Me, [livejournal.com profile] penginchan, and [livejournal.com profile] yamiaudra? We are hardcore. We were winging it.

Most people kinda slide around and fall back on their asses a lot. Me? I quickly mastered the art of falling forward at speeds I'd describe as not slow--and even skidding along after that, leaving a gouge in the snow with my face. Other times, I hit the ground rolling, tumbling head over snowboard, my ankles screaming in silent pain as they were jerked by the weight in directions they never intended to go.

After about twenty repetitions of this--and no, I'm not kidding--my initial cursing (motherfucker, shit, god fucking damnit) had softened to something a great deal more pathetic (groaning and whimpering, mostly). Once my board got stuck on some built up snow and just stopped short. I didn't. I hit the ground so hard I didn't breathe for the next couple of seconds. And I left an imprint of my teeth.

Needless to say, by the time I made it to the bottom of the hill, I felt like I'd been in a fight and I had lost. I never really recovered from that, and I still feel pretty dizzy. We spent some time hanging out at the lodge, Bridgette's board broke the next time we went down and Audra had no objection to leaving thirty minutes before the mountain closed. We had a lot of fun! Oh god, I hurt.

And I got injured least of everyone!

This long entry needs pictures.

Lots of them.

Me directly before our journey! I look almost competent, but right there's I'm actually saying, "God, we're going to fucking die."

Bridgette was a little more confident! "We're going to live, Brittany, live."

Audra is prepared! She and I had never even stepped on a snowboard, before.

And Audra's off! Look at her go, man--that was right after the last time she fell down, I think!

Look at our rosy cheeks and squinty eyes! We were facing a bitter fucking wind. It was cold. It was really cold. It might've been angry, even.

After I'd had the shit beaten out of me by snowdrifts, which is incredibly humiliating, really.

Bridgette got a lot of snow in her hair and it froze into the weirdest shapes.

Me and Audra are making a noble attempt to pose for a photograph while staggering around, strapped to slippery devices of fun.

Aw! We're on the way to the car. It was time to go, man, we were fucking beat.

I think I'm going to zone out for the next couple hours.

She must not have been wearing her goddamn helmet. Geeze.

And yeah, not the best note to go out on, really.

[identity profile] immelmanturn.livejournal.com 2008-02-25 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
How did you even do that? Did you bite the snow, or did you just face-plant so hard that they left an impression through your lips?

I fell down face first with my mouth slightly open! I only noticed because my teeth immediately became very cold.

[identity profile] immelmanturn.livejournal.com 2008-02-25 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, is that all? It being you, I was expecting you to come out of this with fewer teeth than usual.

There are apparently NO arguments to that last point.

It means that you're prone to injury. Hence, losing teeth due to high-speed impacts with hidden rocks or chunks of ice or other persons.

Looks like you guys had fun! Even though you SUCK and FELL ON YOUR FACE A LOT. ♥

.... I didn't even think about hidden rocks or chunks of ice! I thought SNOW. SOFT SOFT POWDERY SNOW.

Surely, SOMEONE out there thinks snowmobiles are unawesome.

Also, I initially typed snowmobiles as sniwmolibiles. Why.

Your ignorance is your shield and salvation!

Er...yes. While I'm sure it seemed like a good idea at the time doing something potentially dangerous without the proper instruction is not very safe. That said: I wannna go!!!!!!! I hate the snow, I hate being cold, but I love throwing myself down things with no thought to the consquences.

You and I have a lot in common, then! Actually, wearing the proper gear makes a huge difference -- if you are tolerably warm and distracted by moving quickly, you can actually forget about the cold!
