rocknload: (♫ someone stop me ♫)

it's been a long time, and i don't think i like the road no more;

Only a pansy would say, sign up for lessons or maybe bring someone along who knew how to snowboard. Me, [livejournal.com profile] penginchan, and [livejournal.com profile] yamiaudra? We are hardcore. We were winging it.

Most people kinda slide around and fall back on their asses a lot. Me? I quickly mastered the art of falling forward at speeds I'd describe as not slow--and even skidding along after that, leaving a gouge in the snow with my face. Other times, I hit the ground rolling, tumbling head over snowboard, my ankles screaming in silent pain as they were jerked by the weight in directions they never intended to go.

After about twenty repetitions of this--and no, I'm not kidding--my initial cursing (motherfucker, shit, god fucking damnit) had softened to something a great deal more pathetic (groaning and whimpering, mostly). Once my board got stuck on some built up snow and just stopped short. I didn't. I hit the ground so hard I didn't breathe for the next couple of seconds. And I left an imprint of my teeth.

Needless to say, by the time I made it to the bottom of the hill, I felt like I'd been in a fight and I had lost. I never really recovered from that, and I still feel pretty dizzy. We spent some time hanging out at the lodge, Bridgette's board broke the next time we went down and Audra had no objection to leaving thirty minutes before the mountain closed. We had a lot of fun! Oh god, I hurt.

And I got injured least of everyone!

This long entry needs pictures.

Lots of them.

Me directly before our journey! I look almost competent, but right there's I'm actually saying, "God, we're going to fucking die."

Bridgette was a little more confident! "We're going to live, Brittany, live."

Audra is prepared! She and I had never even stepped on a snowboard, before.

And Audra's off! Look at her go, man--that was right after the last time she fell down, I think!

Look at our rosy cheeks and squinty eyes! We were facing a bitter fucking wind. It was cold. It was really cold. It might've been angry, even.

After I'd had the shit beaten out of me by snowdrifts, which is incredibly humiliating, really.

Bridgette got a lot of snow in her hair and it froze into the weirdest shapes.

Me and Audra are making a noble attempt to pose for a photograph while staggering around, strapped to slippery devices of fun.

Aw! We're on the way to the car. It was time to go, man, we were fucking beat.

I think I'm going to zone out for the next couple hours.

It was pretty awesome! I don't know if I'll go again, though.

A lot of people at the resort agree! The employees have a room where they can watch and laugh and people falling spectacularly .

I'd give it a while, so you can recover your pride. And top layer of skin.

It's just hard to basically say, "Okay, I'll sign up to get hit in the face repeatedly for an entire afternoon!"

Really, that's why most sensible people don't. Or at the very least, learn how before throwing themselves down a mountain with their feet tied together.

How can you learn without doing it?

[identity profile] sunsetsred.livejournal.com 2008-02-25 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
Dude, I dont even remember if I took lessons or not. I spent the entire like 4 days we were there one year trying to get a board, and couldnt get one till the last day. BUT I ROCKED THAT SLOPE. ...Once. And then collapsed for the next 17 hours.

HARD CORE.

--pffft, I want to work there now.

You could sign up for lessons!

Bridgette got to hang out in there after her board broke, so she got to join in! And then she got to ride a snowmobile down the mountain. I don't know if she got the crappy deal, here.

Those cost an extra ten dollars!

I hope I don't crash for that long. I might wanna take something for my head, which is really, really unhappy about getting knocked around as much as it did.

[identity profile] sunsetsred.livejournal.com 2008-02-25 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
I will run slope after slope on skis, but that board? Whipped my ass. I was done by noon.

I took three winters of skiing lessons when I was... eight, nine, and ten. I wonder if the knowledge has left me, by now.

I need to get over my friend Leanna's house sometime when there is snow, because her dad has one of those. SNOWMOBILE = DO WANT.

[identity profile] sunsetsred.livejournal.com 2008-02-25 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
Huh! Not sure -- could be like riding a bike.

...Or is it like falling off a bike? I forget the expression.

[identity profile] immelmanturn.livejournal.com 2008-02-25 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
Is your pride worth $10?

[identity profile] immelmanturn.livejournal.com 2008-02-25 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
Riding a bike. You're getting it confused with the one about falling off a horse.

[identity profile] rocknload.livejournal.com 2008-02-25 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
My pride is actually worth precious little to me. It's kind of... sad, really. However, after leaving tooth imprints in the snow, I was thinking it might've been worth it...

[identity profile] sunsetsred.livejournal.com 2008-02-25 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, is that it??

The last couple of Full House episodes were about falling off a horse.

It's like... a combination of a motorcycle and a sled. Maybe. I'm just guessing based on what it looks like. But it looks AWESOME.

[identity profile] immelmanturn.livejournal.com 2008-02-25 01:06 am (UTC)(link)
Speaking as someone who actually has forgotten how to ride a bike, yes.

What, entire episodes about someone falling off a horse?

Yeah, the show ended with Michelle falling off a horse, losing her memory, and then getting it back again. It was the most horrible plot ever.
