Agnostic, because I can't really make myself believe any established religion, but I can't shake the feeling that there's something out there. Or maybe I don't want to accept the fact that we might just be here and that's all there is to it, because it would depress me.
You totally have to provide a definition of how this doesn't fit any of the available catagories. Not so much because it matters at all, more because I want to see how you do it, heh.
btw, you need an option for that one analogy of getting hit in the ass with the arrow (i.e. Do you wonder where the arrow came from which hit you in the ass or do you remove it because ow there's an arrow in my ass.).
I figured this out when I finally realised that when people talk about feeling the presence of God and other things in their lives, they weren't just being metaphorical. Plus learning about temporal lobe epilepsy.
Heh, I remember that realization. When I say, "God knows what's going to happen..." or "Why does God hate me so much?" I really mean, "Why does that obnoxiously and unavoidably random aspect of life seem to hate me so much?" I was raised agnostic and I think I've been an atheist since I was old enough to think about it, but I spent more time in the church than a lot of religious people I know, and ... I just never got it. Not in a judgmental way, I just don't understand faith like that at all.
My goal is to eventually get access to a transcranial magnetic stimulator and turn on the regions of my brain commonly associated with religious experience and see what happens. There's an outstanding concern about what that might do to my sense of self, depending on the results, but hey. Then I might know.
That's what I've been generally taught to believe in Catholicism. Still, personal thought is it's just a nice big floaty place where you're surrounded by your loved ones. IDK. God forbid a mere human like myself have any idea of what it's truly like.
Who knows, if there is an afterlife, it could just be one big black hole.
Um. I HAVE MANY INCOHERENT THOUGHTS ON THIS SUBJECT but it basically boils down to that I am "religious" for the value of eating large meals and playing cards with my family on certain dates every year.
Honestly, the best answer for me would probably be...apathetic, lmao. I'm technically agnostic, because I sure as hell can't explain everything, but I don't really care one way or the other; my take on the whole thing is that I'll worry about it after I'm dead, and if there's nothing out there, well, I won't be worrying about it anyway. It's sort of like spending the entire time you're on a roller coaster worrying about what happens when you have to get off, I'd rather just enjoy the ride. \o
Oh, good, you were next on my list! I figured you'd be a good candidate for this sort of thing, since you actually feel that natural feeling of horror and fear humans usually experience when they see something freaky or awful. Most people I know do not.
I am trying to reassure myself with the biological facts that 1) human bodies do not do that, especially not adult human bodies over only a period of months, and 2) no food/sunlight/water would kill a human dead within 10 days, tops.
I decided I wanted to clarify? I chose "monotheistic" because I believer there is ultimately one higher power. However, there are many ways of connecting to that higher power!
That's pretty much what I was going for! My original idea for the poll was just, "Do you believe in god?" because for the purposes of the question I didn't really care what religion you were in particular, but as I thought about it I fleshed it out for a few more possible responses.
