to quote Zelazny...
May. 2nd, 2008 11:02 pmToday I was working, trailing behind my dad down a street in West Phoenix, when a car pulled over right next to me. He was trying to fix something on his cell phone, and unlike everyone else in the Valley he actually did the smart thing and stopped driving. I glanced at him to see what he was doing, he glanced back at him, and he said, "Hey, I remember you."
"... Er," I said. "What?"
"I remember the glasses."
".......... Huh." I've got no memory for faces, but I was pretty sure I'd never seen the guy before in my life--not to mention the fact that I haven't lived in the area for going on eight years. I do wind up down there about six days out of every month, but it's a big fucking city, Phoenix.
"Sorry to bother you," he said, shrugging, and he finished messing with his cell phone, put his car in gear and drove off.
Is that not just a little strange? He seemed totally sincere; I seriously think he meant it, or else he was just trying to mess with me, which is equally odd. It's not like he tried to con me or anything. I swear, the laws of probability are always just a little strained in my vicinity.
