Stuff that's happened.

Tried to get onto the airplane with something a lot like this tucked into a forgotten pocket of my purse. That was fun. The police took my picture and ran a background check and everything. Because of that, we had to run to catch our plane, and we made it with three minutes to spare or something like that.

We've watched a lot of really bad movies on television, like Hidalgo and the Mummy Returns. We've been to Chinatown a couple of times, I bought this really nice, yet cheap silk dress to wear tonight. We have a ... thing tonight. Which requires the wearing of nice things. I keep having to ask people for directions. No one else will do this thing, apparently, out a four adults and a teenager. They just keep poking uselessly at the GPS programs on their phone.

I bought a hat and some funny socks yesterday.

Orson Scott Card says that the Constitution will die, because he will personally destroy it. What?

My mom's going to give a class now on writing lessons from Firefly and Serenity. We don't know how many people are gonna show up but it looks like it's gonna be a lot, I'm going to be her assistant. I don't know what exactly that means.

Orson Scott Card has gone insane. And I think you should take assistant to mean that you can banish people from the classroom if they annoy you, and have them chased with sticks.

He seems to separate his religious beliefs and his writing pretty well? I mean, it's there, but more ... thematically than blatantly.

The irony is the fact that I'm the pacifist of the family, I probably wouldn't even think of using it even in self-defense, and I only put it in my purse to reassure my mother. And that was months ago. So, yup, I forgot about it.

He's not insane, I don't think? I was actually defending himself someplace else, because even though his beliefs are obviously quite uncool, he wasn't crazy in the way they were insisting. He definitely has a tenuous grasp on what the democratic process actually entails--it ain't "mob rule," dude.

My part ended up informing a room full of Firefly fans that Wash was not only killed, but very probably eaten.

I am pretty sure that the gay marriage laws are not breaking down the democratic process, though! I dunno. I do get what he's saying about marriage being older than the laws in place to promote it - it IS originally a religious thing, and I can see why religious people would be mad it was being coopted as a political statement - but c'mon.

THIS IS AN EXCELLENT ROLE

It's not always been a religious thing everywhere, it means different things in different cultures, and it's older than Christianity anyway, so, I mean, it's not theirs. If people want to get angry that other people are getting married in ways that they don't personally agree with when it doesn't effect them at all -- that is their own freakin' problem, I can't exactly feel sorry for them.

Besides, though Card is clearly influenced by his religious beliefs, he is pretending that he is not, and that he has a totally thought out legal/political/scientific reason for opposing gay marriage, which he doesn't, so he is kind of lying, and should, like, loose by default.

HE TOTALLY WAS EATEN. WHAT ELSE WOULD A REAVER DO WITH HIM.

I wasn't solely talking about Christianity as much as religion in general, but okay! Though if you know examples of ancient cultures where marriage wasn't at least partially spiritual/religious I'd be interested because I've never heard of them and that is interesting stuff. And while I agree, the devil's advocate in me feels compelled to point out that if gay marriage changes the meaning of a word that they feel is central to their faith that it DOES affect them in some ephemeral way and thus justifies... something. I'M NOT SURE WHAT IT JUSTIFIES. SOME REACTION, POSSIBLY. Not the homophobia that it is eliciting, of course, but then nooot a lot justifies that.

Agreed!

...RAPE THE CORPSE? And then eat it.

It shouldn't really surprise me that you own a butterfly knife, but that's pretty awesome.
