This is the first time I've ever written a paper that's a whole page longer than the minimum specified requirements. Possibly because I got to speculate on the motivations of a carnivorous alien menace and include phrases like, "It's unfortunate that the scientifically motivated characters didn't get a chance to speculate more before they were killed and eaten."

It's possible I may be choosing the long line of work, here. Is there a line of work where you get to speculate about aliens? I'm totally there.

Edit: Though I may be ill-suited for science stuff, at least I didn't spent the entire class doodling about Dan the DNA Man and the wacky adventures of Mitosis and Meiosis. Unlike someone I know.

Also, I think I'm changing my schedule to take microbiology next semester. Holy crap, that topic drives me crazy. I must understand it.

Like they contradicted each other's themes. Um. They mentioned that Giselle gets yelled at for falling in love with Edward in a day and then Robert takes Giselle over his girlfriend of five years in two? And then Edward, who's shown nothing but True Devotion or whatever to Giselle, gets cast aside and gets Nancy just to tie the movie's loose ends off in about two seconds. I must say that theme contradiction would probably bother me a lot more than nonsense.

Hn. Well, those things do happen, but in the actual movie they aren't really framed in that way? It's more like...

No one really feels bitter about the partner change-off thing. Nancy really really wants someone to be all dramatic and romantic towards her throughout the movie, and Robert doesn't really do that, though they like each other. Robert likes Nancy well enough, but they both kind of admit that they've settled for each other--they would get along, but it's not the OMG TRUE LUV that Giselle and Edward are after. The only person that ever yells at Giselle is Robert himself, and after he falls for her, you get the impression it's because her SUPER SPARKLE DISNEY POWERS have rubbed off on him. Edward even gives them his blessing, because he really wants Giselle to be happy--and he's really searching for his one true love. He thought it was her, but apparently it wasn't! Edward just rolls with that stuff.

IT MADE TOTAL SENSE TO ME, is the summary of that, there.

Huh! That's a more forgiving picture. I do realize how different these things can look just based on whether the movie appealed to you or not. I'll have to ask the person who told me that if she went into the theater prepared to be amused or not...

I have to admit that I didn't really think about the character relationships until just now! They are definitely Disney-fied, but that's kind of the point of the entire movie. If that'd bother someone, then yeah, I can see why they wouldn't like it!

I found the comment that she linked me to that summed up everything she disliked about it! It is here. I have no idea whether I will like it or not, though.

Eh, I think she's wrong. For one, I don't think getting your hair done up all pretty and dancing around in a gorgeous is a sign of being grown up and boring, and considering the very end of the movie had her dancing around the apartment like a gleeful crazy person, I don't see how it showed that she gave up her magical Disney princess-ness.

Also, the movie pretty clearly showed that Giselle wanted to become more, hmm, three dimensional? She liked the "real world," so staying here wasn't a hardship or anything! She didn't just stay for Robert. Edward, on the other hand, hated it and felt awkward and out of place, so he went back. Everyone was happy!

I think the premise of the movie was more like DO WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY. For some, it's cartoon land, for others, it's New York land! The fairy tale option isn't right for everyone--Robert would have hated it so much--and neither is the other thing.

... I think you are the only person that causes me to do this.

Hm. That sounds like a better-thought-out, Disneyish sort of GOAL. I'll see if I can rent it this weekend.

It is totally why you keep coming back.

You're making me sell you Enchanted. AND I KEEP THINKING UP MORE THINGS. Like the fact that after getting a taste of 3D it's pretty doubtful that Giselle would have been happy back in cartoonland even if she hadn't fallen for Robert, while Edward would have been absolutely miserable in New York, even if he would've put up with his misery if someone really asked him to--so they really couldn't have ended up together anyway! They could've, but neither of them would've been super happy no matter which world they lived in.

META IS BAD FOR MY BRAIN.
