This is the first time I've ever written a paper that's a whole page longer than the minimum specified requirements. Possibly because I got to speculate on the motivations of a carnivorous alien menace and include phrases like, "It's unfortunate that the scientifically motivated characters didn't get a chance to speculate more before they were killed and eaten."
It's possible I may be choosing the long line of work, here. Is there a line of work where you get to speculate about aliens? I'm totally there.
Edit: Though I may be ill-suited for science stuff, at least I didn't spent the entire class doodling about Dan the DNA Man and the wacky adventures of Mitosis and Meiosis. Unlike someone I know.
Also, I think I'm changing my schedule to take microbiology next semester. Holy crap, that topic drives me crazy. I must understand it.

Date: 2008-07-16 06:35 pm (UTC)No one really feels bitter about the partner change-off thing. Nancy really really wants someone to be all dramatic and romantic towards her throughout the movie, and Robert doesn't really do that, though they like each other. Robert likes Nancy well enough, but they both kind of admit that they've settled for each other--they would get along, but it's not the OMG TRUE LUV that Giselle and Edward are after. The only person that ever yells at Giselle is Robert himself, and after he falls for her, you get the impression it's because her SUPER SPARKLE DISNEY POWERS have rubbed off on him. Edward even gives them his blessing, because he really wants Giselle to be happy--and he's really searching for his one true love. He thought it was her, but apparently it wasn't! Edward just rolls with that stuff.
IT MADE TOTAL SENSE TO ME, is the summary of that, there.

Date: 2008-07-16 06:51 pm (UTC)Also, the movie pretty clearly showed that Giselle wanted to become more, hmm, three dimensional? She liked the "real world," so staying here wasn't a hardship or anything! She didn't just stay for Robert. Edward, on the other hand, hated it and felt awkward and out of place, so he went back. Everyone was happy!
I think the premise of the movie was more like DO WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY. For some, it's cartoon land, for others, it's New York land! The fairy tale option isn't right for everyone--Robert would have hated it so much--and neither is the other thing.
... I think you are the only person that causes me to do this.
