Man, I wish my linguistics problem sets were taken from languages that at were at least remotely close to English. Not because it'd make it easier—though it would—but because I have to do all of them on the computer, which turns half the unusual characters into empty boxes in Microsoft Word. So instead of spending the last fifteen minutes analyzing from Apinaye (spoken by 1400 people in Brazil, I think), I've been trying to fight the formatting and make it readable.

Looks like I'm going to have to stay up late doing homework, which is great, because I've got to get up at five to make my classes tomorrow. My sleep schedule? Forever hopeless, I'm afraid.

I think Arizona's losing the Superbowl. But I really have no idea. They're all partying and cheering and booing downstairs.

It doesn't, no. And the language looks like this: "piʧo mu̧i atar mɛʧ ʒape." Or, at least, sort of like that. I tried my best to make it look like I think it's supposed to.

If it's a language you're going to be working a lot in, I'd check with the teacher? Whenever they do the Bible or whatever in those languages they have to romanize it for easy printing, and when I googled it pulled up just the typical tildes and accents. ;_;

Well, I probably won't have any problems in the language again... Though now I'm kinda wondering if my computer is displaying it completely and totally wrong. Oh, well, the teacher will be able to see what happened, anyway!

This seems like the sort of thing the professor or the school should be able to work out for you. Since this can't possibly be the first time this sort of thing has come up.

I don't know, no one else has mentioned it, and I can still read the PDF files... Maybe it's because I have a Mac? But no, other people have Macs and they seem to be fine. I have no idea. No one else is complaining, anyway!

I'm not! For my assignments in linguistics class I'm given a sample of a random language and I have to analyze it, translate sentences into it or from it based on what I'm given, describe aspects of the grammar, et cetera. I guess the teacher could pick familiar languages, but that would increase the odds of someone just knowing the language outright, which would kind of defeat the point of the exercises? That's what I think they're thinking, anyway. I mean, if they did it in, say, Japanese, I think a quarter of the class has a background in that.
