So, anyway, turned out I was having a fairly serious allergic reaction to the birth control I was prescribed two weeks ago. The pills themselves were a fucking lifesaver, and I thought most side affects were worth being almost unable to leave the house for two weeks, but no, turns out that a reaction like this was not a fair trade off, really. They gave me a bunch of steroids, a bunch of antihistamines, and an epinephrine pen just in case the swelling goes up again and tries to suffocate me, since it was attacking my neck and face pretty intently before the medication kicked in. I think the worst is over now, though I've still got lots of small raised red patches left and a rather intense feeling of unwell.

I have to go back to the doctor next week.

There's a possibility the steroids will make me absolutely insane and crap, man, I'm just annoyed at everything.

Gyaaaaaah. You've got my wholehearted sympathies. I always hated my allergic reactions, and the symptoms you had sound particularly nasty. (Particularly from something that's supposed to be helping you!)

Yeah, I've never had anything like that happen so it really took me by surprise. :/ And irritatingly enough this is probably going to leave to at least two more trips to the doctors, a place I hate and have been at least four times over the summer for miscellaneous, mostly bizarre shit. (My tongue oozing blood, me mysteriously losing my appetite and weight, a simultaneous ear/throat/eye/sinus infection, stuff like that.)

So are you going back to your old birth control?

Man, after all the grief your immune system gave you this summer by not working, it picks now to go into overdrive.

And why are you up.

I wasn't on birth control before! This was a new experiment, one which ended with me spending twelve hours twitching on my couch, and I can't take anything else at all until this infection is all the way gone and then I get to warily try something new, hoping I'm allergic to some filler ingredient and not an essential drug in birth control. Anyhow, SOON I WILL DEFEAT MY IMMUNE SYSTEM, THE STEROIDS WILL SHUT THAT SHIT DOWN.

Can't sleep! Also something which can be blamed on the steroids. Possibly.

I WAS. I then slept for most of the day. The drug combination I'm on keeps me extremely physically exhausted but makes my brain sort of amped up, so it's leading to bizarre and extremely inconvenient sleep patterns, and I'm basically not moving at all. I WONDER WHEN I SHALL FALL ASLEEP TONIGHT.

At least when this is all over, your entire body and all it's components will have been thoroughly analysed, allowing you to remain within the parameters that make you functionally invincible.

Perhaps someday. I suspect that at the moment, a terrifying amount of our knowledge of health and medicine is hovering somewhere around, "Well, sometimes these things just seem to happen at random."

Apparently it was a "moderately severe" reaction, because I guess "severe" is reserved for those times when you might die. But having hives all over most of your body and various other symptoms is pretty bad. D: And I'm not sure, yet, I'll have to talk to the doctor about it when I get my checkup next Friday.
