[Poll #1479079]

This is not at all inspired by that annoying [livejournal.com profile] sf_drama post. My vote goes to slut, because not only do I fucking hate that word and any variation of it, but I find insults about sexual history particularly offensive.

I SHOULD POST ABOUT HALLOWEEN but there's really nothing to say. I might dress up as something and hand out candy but I don't know, man, I'm just hanging out on the couch.

Edit: DUDE I AM BANNED FROM [livejournal.com profile] cf_hardcore. THIS IS WITHOUT CAUSE. I DEMAND A RECOUNT.

Cunt, definitely, because it's reducing a woman to nothing more than her genitals.

Cunt, because the other ones at least I've heard used for men as well.

The way the other terms are used towards men actually bother me a lot, sometimes, though. Like bitch for a guy means something completely different -- it means he's whining and bitching and simpering, sort of like a stereotypical. Calling a man a slut almost invariably means calling him a man slut, which implies that regular sluts are women.

I haven't heard man slut (or man whore) in a while, actually. Just slut all around. But yeah I'm not big on getting into a discussion over it. Sorry. Kind of having a crappy day but there's my two cents. :)

I had a hard time choosing between whore and cunt, but I eventually went with whore. It's a lot more pervasive and casually used, and when it's used as a slur on personality, it manages to combine an insult, a commentary on her sexual proclivities, and degradation of sex workers all in one. Plus it contributes to the whole "women have some, men get/pay for some" thingit and my misogynist uncle uses it to describe pretty much every female celebrity and just eww eww eww.

I don't actually really mind whore when it's used literally, as a slang term for prostitute. When it's used interchangeably for slut it really fucking bothers me, and when people use it to call prostitutes sluts it still pisses me off a lot, but I sort of judge that on the ... tone. If that makes sense.

It does make sense! Whore as a word for prostitute is fine - I just usually don't hear it used that way. Usually it's "I hate Brittany Spears, she's such a whore."

I don't hate the word cunt. At all.

I find slut worse, since it's more shaming to me. Judging a woman by her sexual track record (or lack thereof) is not at all OK.

Picked "slut"-- since, you know, there's this weird sexual history double standard and all, and because it's just such a cheap, throwaway way to disenfranchise a woman. Furthermore, it reflects our tendency to make the female body a public entity: what a woman does or does not do with her body is something that's fair game for anyone to pick apart in our culture. Consider magazines and television programs, evaluating extensively so-and-so's weight gain or weight loss, or what they wear, or hair color changes, etc, etc. The same goes for sexual decisions, though to a less mass-media extent. It's perfectly fair to pass judgment on someone's body choices with respect to your own personal values and biases when their body is common property.

"Bitch" comes in a close second, though, because it has some sort of subjugation connotation going on-- a bitch is a woman who's behaving out of line in some way, shape or form, and needs to be put back in her place. It just feeds right off the old "hysterical woman" archetype. By virtue of being a "bitch", a woman needn't be regarded sincerely. Again, cheap disenfranchisement. Incredibly easy; I'm sure everyone's heard someone say that about a woman before at least once.

I think reducing a woman to nothing more than the value of her genitalia for pleasure versus a lifestyle is the most offensive way to look at a woman. So I obviously chose that one.
