You know what's better about speaking in grammatically correct English? JACK FUCKING SHIT. That's right! There is absolutely nothing better about the language you learn to speak in school and in fact, most of those rules were totally arbitrarily decided on a few hundred years ago to make our written language more closely resemble Latin, which makes no sense at all. It makes about as much sense as Japanese being written with freaking Chinese character, which makes no sense at all! But that's another rant. There's nothing wrong with the way the youth of today speak. If it annoys you, that's actually more due to your class bias or other prejudices than anything else! Also? Text message abbreviations and other Internet slang are exactly as legitimate as formal written English. It's true!

ENGLISH IS IN NO DANGER

A DIALECT IS NEVER A "WRONG" OR "BAD" WAY TO SPEAK

AN EDUCATION DOES NOT MAKE YOU SMARTER

AND THERE'S ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WRONG WITH SAYING "I COULD CARE LESS"

Not my opinions! This is science. If you disagree with me, you are TOTALLY REALLY SUPER DOUBLE-PLUS WRONG WRONG WROOOOOOONG.

this may have been brought to you by a class i just got out of. maybe.

i had to take a intro to linguistics class today and one of the questions was "Language tends to be corrupted as it passes from one generation to the next, true or false?" LOTS OF PEOPLE WROTE TRUE.

lots of people also thought Japanese and Chinese were related, too.

corrupted or just new vernacular added?

they kind of are? if you think about the kanji - but they are in no means related in speaking terms ...

the word was CORRUPTED, as in MADE WORSE.

in linguistics "genetically related" means they are descendants of each other or another common language or et cetera, and it's speaking that really counts. although I hate the term genetically related when it comes to languages because languages DO NOT HAVE GENES, but that's me being pedantic, there.

also, this is a linguistics class, so I was sort of blown away that people didn't know this stuff.

BASICALLY THEY DRAW FAMILY TREES FOR LANGUAGES LIKE:

LATIN

SPANISH FRENCH ITALIAN

PORTUGUESE

IF I COULD DRAW LINES IT'D BE CLEARER, but basically Spanish French and Italian all came from Latin, and likewise Portuguese used to be Spanish. Anyhow their relatedness is why all those languages are called Romance languages, it doesn't have anything to do with them sounding ~romantic~. BUT ANYWAY CHINESE AND JAPANESE ARE FROM TOTALLY DIFFERENT FAMILIES.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I'm pretty sure the language of your people is, uh, dead.
