Just in case you don't follow my Twitter account, my hometown is close to become a fiery inferno of terribleness. I'm about four miles away from the fire, which is at zero percent containment, and people around here are mildly worried. We don't think it's coming this way, but our house backs up to the forest and there's seriously nothing between us and that cloud except for thousands and thousands of extremely dry pine trees.

Edit: Oh, I forgot to say, I have a computer again, because my dad spent money he probably doesn't even have to get my laptop working again (and will therefore stop needing to use his work computer for my classwork). Hooray!

Y'know, if my city was four miles away from uncontrolled fire with nothing inbetween it and even more flammable material, I expect people's concern would somewhat exceed mild. But you guys probably know what you're doing.

It's sort of hard to describe the state of the concern. Like, people are aware and worried, but we are also mostly still going about our lives? IT IS IN THE BACK OF OUR MINDS. And stuff. There's people way closer, though. Also while this fire is noteworthy in both distance to our city and size, fires do happen around here quite a bit.

I believe you, it's just a weird little disconnect! I don't know what it's like to live somewhere where your entire neighbourhood suddenly being on fire is a sort of thing that just happens sometimes. I don't think we even have anything remotely comparable to compare, sometimes it's cold? But people still complain about that.

See, yeah, I have dealt with horrible fires, flash flooding, and home destroying earthquakes--and I think I would rather deal with any of these things than live somewhere where it's as cold as it is in Canada. I HATE SNOW MAN. GOD I HATE IT.

It's not going to be contained any time soon but they've kept it away from places with actual people. Flagstaff is located in a huge freaking national forest and that is basically what is going up, now. Which is sad, but at least nobody will die.
