yamiaudra's coming over later! I think I'm in the mood for some DMC1~, which I'm realizing is the only one of those games I ever just pick up and play 'cause I'm bored. If I need a DMC3 or 4 fix I just watch the cutscenes.

I wonder if I can go the whole day without watching that freakin' movie again.

Edit: I've used about fifty minutes of the three hundred I started with... That's... I think I can keep it down to ten bucks a week? Which is not saving a terrible lot of money.

Their little "OH LAWD, LET'S STRIKE SO WE CAN GET BACK BASIC ACCOUNTS" idea is bullshit. SUP or whatever runs LJ anymore has made it clear that they want more profits, which is totally fine.
It's not like the non-paying users are doing anything more than eating up LJ's bandwidth.
I also don't see the problem in basic accounts going away. Aren't all of the people who are boycotting LJ for a day existing users that have access to basic accounts? WHY DO THEY CARE?

I think what bugs me more is not the fact that they're doing this, but they're doing this over the Basic account drama and not that whole "screening out certain popular interests from the Popular Interests Page" controversy. If that's why they're boycotting, then I can understand the annoyance even though I still doubt it'd accomplish much. But this? Lol. Nothing for me to get worked up over. I'm more concerned about friends and work-related stress to be concerned about El Jay, as much as it is my drug.

I think the "strike" is mostly in fandom circles, which is definitely not all of LiveJournal. And it's not a strike, it's a BOYCOTT. But that sounds less dramatic. And I question the wisdom of pissing these people off anyway--not that this will piss 'em off.

LOL STRIKE except...not. :| Sure, I'm not psyched that they won't let us make new basic accounts, but when it comes down to it, it IS their site, and they can actually do just about anything they want. I know a couple people on the advisory board are pissed about it, maybe instead of going OMG GAIZ LETZ NOT POST 4 A DAY they should put it in the hands of the board members to try and actually DO something about it? Language is a living thing. The term "strike" was probably used because it resonates immediately with everyone, and communicates the concepts, and motivations, more effectively and quickly than any other term that came to mind for the initial poster (beckyzoole). I don't really see a problem with it being used inaccurately in this case, because the actions being taken are still, at principle, the same.

And the entire idea behind the strike is to not piss LJ off, which is why it's a refrain from doing something and not a provoking action such as spam. It's just to make a statement to LJ, which yeah, is pretty pretentious, but I figure, what the hell can it hurt? I can live without LJ for 24 hours. XD I'll get over it. Not a big deal. I generally think getting hyped up over anything is crazy, so. /o/

And it's exactly for that reason that calling it a strike bothers me. Using the term to bring to mind the connotations of a strike when you're not, in fact, striking just seems wrong to me. LJ users are not workers with no other recourse fighting against unfair treatment by their employers--something I regard as a somewhat serious matter. They're consumers protesting a business decision. A relatively minor one.

Basically, it's cheapening the term, I think, and that bothers me. Don't call what you're doing something it's not because it sounds more dramatic.
