I'm pleased to report that Indiana Jones won, as well he should have.

The good news is that I'm probably going to get to see Iron Man! The bad news is that that's only because I have to drive across state in order to put an app in at my potential summer job and maybe talk to the manager, who is under the impression that I'm an experienced waitress that speaks Spanish, Japanese, and Chinese. Which would be handy, were it true, since all those are spoken in the restaurant or nearby but yeah, I'm sort of not that good.

I'm also trying to get a second job working the night shift at the Walmart Supercenter.

And my dad wants me to start moving my stuff from my studio back into the house. I am so, so sad about this, guys. You have no idea. He was going to ease the move for me by giving me basically a room downstairs that's independent of the rest of the house but my mom was all, woah, you're setting that up for Brittany? This is wonderful. I'm taking it. So now I'm back sharing a room that still has my decade old Orlando Bloom posters on the walls with my little sister and answering to my parents whenever I want to come or go. I am getting way too old for this shit, you guys have no idea.

Indian Jones should always win

and oh man I feel you on the moving thing. One of the reasons I'm so desperate to keep any semblance of independence I can is to AVOID HAVING TO MOVE BACK IN WITH MY PARENTS. Like, ugh. I couldn't even handle living in a dorm rn. :< I dunno the specifics of your situation but I really hope that things work out soon so you can be on your own again. (also your mom sounds like mine)

man yeah MOVING IN WITH MY PARENTS is going to kill me, probably, and I'll probably spend the entire summer making sad and tragic posts about how much I hate my life. However I'm (hopefully) studying in Taiwan from next September until May and staying with my parents over the summer is (hopefully) going to help pay for that. So if things work out it'll be worth it! And if not, uh...

I HOPE YOU DON'T HAVE TO LIVE WITH YOUR PARENTS that'd be major suck, I totally understand why you'd bend over backwards to avoid it.

oh well that's good! I hope you get to go, studying abroad is basically the best thing ever. I'd be in Japan rn if I could help it but ugh I fucked everything up soooo

yes ;_; like it'd be sorta ok because my best friends live in phoenix and there's a car there I can use but omg just

PHOENIX ;_; wastelandddddd, and then the wordless scorn my parents & grandparents would have for not ~making it~ fuck omg I have to go panic some more

oh wow they live in phoenix? haha, I fucking hate Phoenix, that's why I insisted on going to U of A rather than ASU, because as much as Tucson sucks FUCK if I'm moving to the Valley. Flagstaff would still be best, but, eh, that's what the summers are for!

I hope studying abroad is as good as I hear! my folks have hosted a bunch of exchange students and I spent six weeks in Japan a few years back so I sort of know how it works, but it's way different doing it myself. you still might be able to do it! a lot of schools really push that sort of thing so they will help you out a lot.

yeah phx is a fucking ugh

idk why people stay there, seriously. AND LIKE IT?? what. but the Flagstaff/Sedona area is nice, if I was sane I'd have just gone to NAU but I'm not so I packed and moved to Boston.

I spent six weeks in Japan as well! Best experience ever. I love traveling and studying abroad. What part of Japan were you in?

I'm not in school rn (taking a break...) but I really want to do another homestay with college classes. I think it's far harder if you're not going to a university that has a study abroad program though? I started looking into it and it seems a little daunting :< I'll keep looking, though. Maybe I can get a scholarship like last time and get it for cheap...

I GUESS THEY LIKE THE ADVANTAGES OF A BIG CITY since like, there's tons to do and stuff, it's huge. I don't like NAU that much but Flagstaff/Sedona is so nice. I love taking day trips down to Sedona since it's only like, less than an hour by car away from Flag.

I was in Okayama! me and my brother. Plus we took day trips to Tokyo, Hiroshima, and Kyoto. It was so fun. We have friends there and they let us stay there for free pretty much, very very cool.

Hmm, I'm not sure. I know that if you're in one college, you can apply to the study abroad programs of other colleges, like my school runs a huge program in Nanking, China, and people from other schools can sign up to go there, too. I'm paying for mine with financial aid (since that's what I'm using to pay for school anyway) plus a tiny scholarship that should help pay for food and stuff. There's lots of loans and scholarships and stuff, too. If I was smarter about that sort of thing I probably could've gotten more.

Idk about tons to do, just like...the things you can do in any city. Except more of them. And you have to drive like twice as long to get to them :(

Cool! I stayed in Tokyo for a few days at the beginning because of my scholarship which was fucking AWESOME, and then I stayed in Okinawa for the remainder of the 6 weeks. Don't get me started bc I will go on FOREVER about it, lol. It was just super awesome.

Oh, really? I didn't know that...Hm. I'm going to a private college (I think) anyhow so I'm not sure if that applies? I'll look into it. I'd love to be able to do a homestay while taking design classes in Japan. So many asian design students come to LA or NYC but I want to go over there!

If I'm really super honest with myself what I want more than anything is to go live in Tokyo, do my design schooling/internships there, and whatnot, but...it's like, I'd need a job to help pay for it, and idk if I could be a student AND do paid work while I was there due to visa stuff, and I really don't want to have to save my money for years and years to be able to put the plan in motion, you know?

Well I'm from Flagstaff so there's ... what, the movies, the mall, bowling and ice skating. Except the ice skating rink was destroyed this winter, so that's one less thing to do. So to kids from ... pretty much everywhere else in Arizona, Phoenix seems pretty crazy entertaining.

Haha, yeah, Japan is pretty fucking awesome. Do you speak any Japanese? I used to, especially when I was there, but man, it's so rusty now. I need to study or something...

I don't think private colleges would make a difference. I guess it'd depend on your program in particular, though.

Yeeeeeah, I'm not sure. If you go there for the short-term, like a study abroad thing, it's probably a good way to at least get your bearings there, see what's possible for a foreigner there? And after that... Hm, well you could come back here with your new knowledge. I'd imagine that for most programs there you'd need to be fluent in Japanese anyway.

Hmmm, I never thought of it that way! I guess you're right. I just like either small, quaint college towns or huge bustling cities, and Phoenix is neither. :x

A little...I only took one semester of an actual class, which was enough to learn the grammar structure and all, and I learned a bunch of various vocab/slang phrases while I was there, but not enough to really understand/speak. I'm working on reading rn though, I have a bunch of fashion mags I'm trying to be able to understand.

I'm in fashion design, and my college does have an abroad program, I think? I'm not sure. but I'm just costing my family so much money on THIS failed venture idk what I'd do if I failed again in a foreign country no less. I'm trying to get my motivation up to really start hardcore doing japanese learning online, I really really want to be super proficient, at least to my spanish level, which is that I can get by pretty well, but not really fluent, you know?

Man I just want to do too many thinsg.

Also I feel like I"m talking about myself too much in your own journal ._. I'm sorry, you just seem to have good advice :o

Heh, I don't really have a preference for either. When I do go out it's usually to play pool and drink, which you can do pretty much everywhere. I'd be totally miserable without a theater, and ... that's about it.

That's about where I'm at at Spanish. Like, I've studied it a lot, and I can read the newspaper and write a paper in it, but I need to just hear and speak enough of it before I can really say that I speak it, you know? I got to a similar level in Japanese just by self-study, so it's totally possible! Japanese just has the kanji issue. Like, kana is easy, after I learned them I can still remember all of the characters perfectly fine, years later with barely any studying at all. But the kanji, hahahaha no.

Weeeeeell if you're family's willing to spend the money, they're willing to spend the money, you know? Unless they're back home hating on you or something, i would try to worry as little as possible about it. Like, keep it in mind but that shouldn't be your deciding factor. And there's always aid and loans and even scholarships, if you can get one.

lol, don't worry about it.

I feel you on the living-with-parents thing. It really sucks. I even have to share a bed (not just a room, a bed) w/ my little sis who is gross b/c my mom turned my bedroom into her office. :(

oh, man, that blows. my sister and I have had to share a bed before, until we put a bunkbed in there. i don't mind is so much because we're both small and stuff but yeah, it's a BIT NICER to have your own place to sleep.

It's weird going back home after being on your own! Before I joined I had those two weeks that I had to share a room with Shauna. It was horrible. My major fear is when I get out of the Navy I have no idea where I am going to live.

Taiwan would be so cool I hope you can go. Too bad you weren't going while I am in Japan, then I could have visited.

I was back last summer but man I was so sick last summer that I barely remember any of it. I do remember it was like, hell on earth though. I hope this summer is better but I'm really not counting on it. Don't they give you some money right when you get out, though? You might not have to move back in with your parents, even temporarily!

I hope so, too! Yeah, I don't think anybody is going to visit me, ;_; but that's okay. I'll make new friends!

Nobody visited me in Japan so I understand ;_;

The Navy will give me money if I go to school full time, but I don't know what's going to happen with that. I got two years left and a lot of things can happen within those two years. Plus I'm not sure if I want to go to school.

I guess we're going too faaaaaar away.

Going to school seems win-win, though! I mean you'll get to live for free for a few years, plus at the end of it you'll have a degree which'll make getting a job easier... Plus anyway with two years in the states you'll probably have more of an idea where you want to live and stuff.
